STANFORD FACULTY PROFESSORS

Thomas H. Lee is Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University and one of the pioneering figures behind the modern wireless era. His groundbreaking work demonstrated that wireless radios could be built using mainstream semiconductor technology, laying the foundation for the connectivity that powers today’s smartphones, GPS systems, and wireless networks. Founder of Stanford’s Microwave Integrated Circuits Laboratory and author of the field’s first widely adopted textbook on CMOS RF integrated circuits, Professor Lee has influenced generations of engineers and innovators worldwide. Beyond academia, he has founded multiple technology companies, led advanced research initiatives at DARPA, and served on the board of semiconductor leader Xilinx prior to its acquisition by AMD. Today, his research focuses on one of the defining challenges of the AI era: designing ultra-efficient computing architectures inspired by the extraordinary energy efficiency of the human brain.

Kang Shen is the Frank Lee and Carol Hall Professor of Biology at Stanford University, Director of the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. A globally recognized leader in cellular and molecular neuroscience, his research explores one of science’s most fundamental questions: how the brain builds itself. Professor Shen studies how billions of neurons form precise connections to create the complex neural circuits responsible for perception, learning, and memory. His pioneering discoveries on how neural circuits are assembled and organized earned him election in 2025 to both the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Through his work, Professor Shen is helping advance our understanding of brain function and the mechanisms behind neurological disorders.
